Joy Organics CBD Oil for Pets Reviewed
Before buying any food or supplement for your pets, it is important to understand the product in question. We have dissected every aspect of the Joy Organics CBD Pet Products and even tried them on our own animals to give you a thorough and unbiased review. Take a look.
What Is Joy Organics and Where Is it Produced?
Joy Organics is a family-owned business that was founded by Joy Smith in 2018. Her personal experience with the benefits of CBD inspired her to take things further and help other people (and pets) enjoy the effects of CBD.
All their hemp is grown right here in the United States and is certified organic by the United States Food and Drug Administration. Every product from the company is also third-party tested for quality and safety.
Which Type of Pet Is Joy Organics Best Suited For?
Joy Organics makes products for both pets and people. Within their pet product line, there are two available options: CBD Dog Treats and the Organic CBD Tincture. Of course, the treats are meant for dogs only, but the tincture is meant for use in dogs, cats, and other pets.
While studies are currently limited regarding the use of CBD, those that have been completed have shown some promise. Cats have been shown to metabolize CBD differently than dogs, with dogs absorbing it more quickly and the effects lasting a shorter period.
The use of CBD and other hemp products has not been approved by the FDA for use in animals as a drug or food supplements, meaning that veterinarians cannot legally recommend it. While the use of CBD appears to be safe, well-tolerated, and results in numerous health benefits, there still needs to be a more thorough clinical understanding of the use of CBD for domesticated pets.
Which Type of Pet Might do Better with a Different Brand?
The products produced by Joy Organics are of high quality and third-party tested. The only reason to choose another brand over the Joy Organics Organic CBD Tincture would be if you prefer the CBD extract to be paired with a carrier oil other than the extra virgin olive oil that is used.
Not every CBD oil is made from the same ingredients. CBD requires some form of carrier oil to aid digestion and maintain its freshness. Coconut oil and MCT oil are the most common oils used in pet products because of their safety and health benefits.
It’s important to note that extra virgin olive oil is non-toxic and considered safe for both dogs and cats in moderation. Olive oil is rich in fatty acids and great for skin and coat health, and like any other oil has a high-fat content.
Discussion of the Primary Ingredients (Good & Bad)
1. Joy Organics Organic CBD Tincture for Dogs, Cats & Pets Ingredients
Organic Extra-Virgin Olive Oil
CBD oil requires a carrier oil to maintain its freshness and aid in the digestive process. Joy Organics uses organic extra virgin olive oil in this pet tincture. Olive oil is very high in fat, is safe, and can provide health benefits if used in moderation. It is rich in phytonutrients, vitamin E, and omega-3 fatty acids. It can promote healthy skin and coat, immunity, and aid in cardiovascular, brain, and overall health.
Organic Phytocannabinoid-Rich Hemp Extract
Phytocannabinoids are cannabinoids that occur naturally within the cannabis plant. CBD is the most well-known, non-psychoactive phytocannabinoid, but it’s only one of the dozens found in the flowers and leaves of the hemp plant.
This extract is broad-spectrum, meaning it includes the naturally occurring cannabinoids, terpenes, and phytonutrients found in the hemp plant, without any traces of THC. This allows your pet to get all the benefits of the hemp plant without the psychoactive “high” that results from THC.
2. Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats
Water-Soluble Phytocannabinoid-Rich Hemp Extract Powder
This is the powder form of the hemp extract that is rich in beneficial phytocannabinoids. The powder contains all the benefits of the extract itself and is easy to mix into recipes.
Water
Water is commonly used as an ingredient in dog treats since it moistens the treat and helps enhance both the flavor and the smell, making it more appetizing and palatable.
Dried Brewer’s Yeast
Dried brewer’s yeast is found in many dog foods and treats. It is derived from a single-celled organism, which is responsible for the fermentation of beer. It is considered a safe dietary supplement that provides potential benefits for dogs, as it is rich in B vitamins and antioxidants. It has been shown to improve the health of the skin, hair, eyes, and liver function in both pets and humans.
Glycerin
Glycerin, or glycerol is a sugar alcohol that is a thicker, syrup-like liquid compound made from animal fats, certain plant oils, or even petroleum. Glycerin has a sweet taste and has no color or odor tasting. Glycerin is not naturally found in foods but instead is chemically altered manufactured compounds, and while it is generally considered safe and non-toxic according to the FDA, there is some controversy surrounding the ingredient. There is no specific source of glycerin disclosed in these dog treats.
Gum Arabic
Gum Arabic is a natural gum that consists of the hardened sap of two species of the Acacia sensu lato tree, Senegalia Senegal, and Vachellia seyal. It is a mixture of polysaccharides and glycoproteins, which allows it to act as a binder, emulsifier, and thickening agent that is commonly used in a variety of foods.
Sodium Alginate
Sodium alginate is a high‐molecular‐weight polymer that naturally occurs in brown algae. The use of sodium alginate in animal nutrition is considered safe for both the animals and the environment.
Beef Liver Powder
Beef liver powder is simply the dried, powdered form of beef liver. It provides the same health and nutritional benefits as the liver. Not only does it enhance the flavor and aroma, but it is rich in essential nutrients like vitamin A, folate, and iron.
Natural Bacon Flavor
Natural bacon flavor is used as a flavor enhancer to make the treats more aromatic and appetizing. Natural flavors are controversial because while they are required to have a natural origin, they typically go through many chemical processes to obtain the flavor.
Flaxseed Oil
Flaxseed oil is the oil derived from flaxseed. It is rich in omega fatty acids and dietary fiber. Flaxseed offers up anti-inflammatory benefits, is great for skin and coat health, and helps support healthy digestion.
Microcrystalline Cellulose
Microcrystalline cellulose is a refined wood pulp that is used as a texturizer, bulking agent, emulsifier, anti-caking agent, a fat substitute in food products. Microcrystalline cellulose is considered safe for all animal species.
How Do the Joy Organics CBD Pet Products Work?
All animals have an endocannabinoid system, which is a complex cell-signaling system that regulates and controls many critical bodily functions such as learning, memory, emotional processing, sleep, temperature control, pain control, inflammatory and immune responses, appetite, and more.
CBD works by attaching to receptors inside the endocannabinoid system and has been shown to provide relief for a wide range of conditions including pain, anxiety, seizures, and inflammatory issues. Each endocannabinoid system is different, so the effects can vary among individuals.
Is There Any THC in Joy Organics CBD Pet Products?
No, all of Joy Organics CBD Pet Products are third-party tested and confirmed to have no detectable traces of THC.
How Do I Properly Store Joy Organics CBD Pet Products?
Both the Joy Organics CBD Tincture for Dog, Cats, & Pets and the Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats should be stored at room temperature in a dry place.
How Many Treats Come in the Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats Jar?
Each jar of CBD Dog Treats contains 30 chews. Each chew has 2 mg of CBD, so the total amount of CBD for the entire jar is 60mg.
How Do CBD Pet Products Differ from Human CBD Products?
The most notable difference between CBD pet products and human CBD products are the milligram content and the ingredients. Human CBD products will sometimes have carrier oils that are not ideal for pet consumption. There are also CBD products for humans that contain THC, which will result in a high and should be avoided for pets.
Since dosage and ingredients can vary, when you are shopping for a CBD product for your pet, you should always opt to buy those that are designed specifically for pets.
Are All Joy Organics CBD Pet Products USDA Organic?
No, only the Joy Organics Organic Tincture for Dogs, Cats, & Pets is USDA-certified organic. The CBD Dog Treats are not considered organic considering that not all ingredients in the treats are fully organic.
Are Joy Organics CBD Pet Products Expensive?
Joy Organics products are competitive compared to other high-quality CBD pet products on the market. They also give you the peace of mind knowing it has been third-party tested. Regular use of CBD pet products can get expensive, especially for larger animals that require a higher dosage. For instance, CBD Dog Treats will not go nearly as far for a large breed dog as it would for a toy breed.
You can save money with Joy Organics by opting for a regular subscription, which will give you a discount on the pricing. They also offer a 30-day money-back guarantee if you are not satisfied with their products.

Reviews of the Joy Organics CBD Oil Pet Products
1. Joy Organics Organic CBD Tincture for Dogs, Cats & Pets
The Joy Organics Organic CBD Tincture for Dogs, Cats, & Pets is USDA-certified organic and only contains two ingredients, organic extra virgin olive oil, and organic phytocannabinoid-rich hemp extract. It offers up the many benefits associated with CBD including relief of chronic pain, seizures, inflammatory issues, and anxiety, and provides a sense of calm.
Each bottle contains one ounce of CBD oil, and you have the choice between 450 mg or 900mg bottles. The tincture can be given directly or mixed into your pet’s favorite food. It needs to be kept in a dry place at room temperature and is shelf-stable for 18 months.
Like all products from Joy Organics, this CBD oil is third-party tested for quality and safety and contains no detectable traces of THC. This tincture is high-quality and manufactured right here in the United States. The price of the tincture is comparable to other high-quality products on the market but can get expensive, especially for owners of larger dogs.
Pros
- USDA Certified-Organic
- Third-party tested
- Contains no THC
- Manufactured in the United States
- 450mg and 900mg bottles are available
- Can be used for dogs, cats, and other pets
Cons
- Expensive
2. Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats
The Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats contains 60mg of CBD per jar, with a total of 30 pieces in each. These dog treats feature water-soluble phytocannabinoid-rich hemp extract powder as the first ingredient and will provide your pup with all the health benefits of CBD in a delicious, palatable chew.
It is formulated with beef liver powder and dried brewer’s yeast within the first few ingredients, which are both nutritionally beneficial for dogs. The added water provides some extra moisture to the treats to enhance their flavor, aroma, and palatability. These treats are the perfect texture, and they do not fall apart easily or leave any crumbs at the bottom of the jar.
The natural bacon flavor will entice your dog to eat, though natural flavors are a controversial ingredient because of the chemical processes they go through. These treats won’t work for cats or other pets but are very tasty, well-tolerated, and do the job they are intended to do.
As far as pricing goes, it can get expensive to regularly feed your dog these treats, especially larger dogs, but the price is very fair when compared to the competition.
Pros
- USDA Certified-Organic
- Third-party tested
- Tasty, aromatic, and well-tolerated
- Contains no THC
- Manufactured in the United States
- Optimal texture
Cons
- Expensive
- For use in dogs only
- Contains some controversial ingredients
What We Have to Say
To get a more well-rounded review, I tried Joy Organics CBD oil products out on three large dogs and one cat. I did this because each animal has their own unique issues that I felt could potentially be improved using CBD oil. Here’s a breakdown of each pet and what I noticed in each one.
Kol
Kol is my healthy, happy 4-year-old, 115-pound male German Shepherd. Kol doesn’t suffer from any health ailments or anxiety. He is a very confident, happy-go-lucky kind of guy that tends to get a bit rowdy. I let him try the tincture by putting it in with his dinner. I was using the 450 mg bottle and put it in the serving size recommended for his weight.
I make sure my dogs settle down for at least 30 minutes to an hour after eating to let them digest properly before they engage in any more play for the night. I started to notice a difference in the 30-to-45-minute timeframe.
He became a much calmer version of himself, which I can genuinely appreciate. He was much more content to just walk outside and explore the yard rather than break out in a sprint to look for any unsuspecting squirrels.
I then decided to take the CBD for a spin during bath time. Kol hates baths more than I hate giving them to him. Let me tell you, this CBD oil worked wonders. I was able to thoroughly groom, shampoo, rinse, condition, and shampoo again with a dog that calmly stood in place.
For Kol, CBD isn’t something that I will give him regularly since he doesn’t have any health ailments, but I will certainly be using it for baths, large family gatherings, trips to the veterinarian, or any other situation that would be beneficial to have him calm.
Boone
Boone is also a 4-year-old German Shepherd. He is a big guy too, at 110 pounds and I felt he could benefit from CBD oil for several reasons. Boone does not like being separated from his person and gets very anxious when he is out of sight. He takes rowdy to a whole new level when it comes to playtime, and though he does suffer from food allergies, they are controlled with diet.
Boone was given the CBD Dog Treats from Joy Organics and as you can expect, the treats went over well. They were gobbled right up without hesitation. Usually, the evenings with Boone and Radar together are balls-to-the-wall crazy. It’s a mix of size, energy, and chaos when these two are together but with CBD, there was peace.
It had enough of a calming effect that it made the evening nice and quiet, and the family sat down in the living room with well-behaved dogs that were perfectly content laying around and spending time with everyone. They played a little, but it was nowhere near as rambunctious. It also seemed to take the edge off his separation anxiety, so I must say that the CBD Dog Treats were a huge success for Boone.
Radar
Radar is an 85-pound Golden Retriever that is 7 years old. He suffers from severe environmental allergies that result in a lot of itching and overall discomfort. While these allergies are being managed by his veterinarian, there are certain times of the year that you just can’t seem to keep him comfortable.
Since we just so happen to be right in the middle of the heavy allergen season, I thought we’d see what CBD could do. Now, keep in mind that CBD cannot cure allergies, but I was hoping it could provide relief and I do believe that it did. Radar was given the CBD Dog Treats, which he devoured. He tends to spend a lot of time digging and we noticed a drastic decrease after he had been given the CBD.
After a few uses, I must say that I am convinced that Joy Organics CBD Dog Treats truly helped reduce his allergy symptoms and provided him relief that many other products have not. I must also mention that at 7 years old, he is still full of puppy energy and as I mentioned above, he and Boone wrestle a lot. The CBD had a nice calming effect on him, too.
Tazzy
Oh, sweet Tazzy. He’s my 10-year-old gray tabby cat that I adopted from Tulsa Animal Welfare on December 31, 2012. My husband and I had just gotten married the year before and he was our first four-legged family pet. Right from the get-go, you could tell Tazzy had anxiety built right in.
He hates car rides, any life changes (big or small), and dogs that do not bow to his omniscience. I once put a collar with a bell on him and the poor fellow hid under my bed terrified of the noise he was making when he walked. His anxiety can be debilitating, and the symptoms range from howling excessively, explosive diarrhea, and excessive grooming, to not letting you out of his sight.
I’d spent a lot of money at the veterinarian trying to figure out if any health issues were causing his behaviors. After all the testing was complete, we realized he was just a very anxious boy and we needed to do what we could to keep him calm.
The prescriptions we were given didn’t sit well with me. The effects were intense, he was barely coherent and not himself in the least. It took days for him to get back to his normal self after just one dose. Needless to say, I was very excited to try Joy Organics CBD Tincture for Tazzy’s anxiety.
It took about an hour or so before I noticed a change in his behavior. He became much more relaxed than usual. His appetite stayed the same but instead of meowing incessantly as I opened his food, he waited quietly and patiently for me to place it in his bowl. He did not feel the need to viciously attack the dogs when they roamed into his space, and he was perfectly content and peaceful.
The Joy Organics Organic CBD Tincture is a must-have for Tazzy, especially during times that his anxiety is higher than usual.
Conclusion
Joy Organics CBD Pet Products are great quality, third-party tested, and deliver on their benefits. While they can be a bit on the expensive side, especially for regular use in large dogs, they are well worth the cost and their pricing is comparable to other competitors that offer high-quality CBD for pets.
As for my experience, I have nothing but great things to say about both the tincture and the dog treats. None of my animals experienced any change in bowel habits or other adverse effects. I noticed a positive difference in each one of them and would highly recommend this brand to those looking for quality CBD for their pets.
